The science behind a shock absorber is much more simple than it may seem. Shock absorbers control the impact (downward movement) and rebound (upward movement) of your motorcycle. Each time you hit a bump, you experience both impact and rebound of suspension. 

As the name suggests, the shock absorber helps soften or dampen this impact and rebound. The faster the suspension moves, the more resistance the shock absorber provides. This is made possible by taking the kinetic energy (movement) of your suspension and converting it to thermal energy (heat) and then dissipating it into the atmosphere.

All together, this will minimize road vibration and improve ride smoothness, but also play a key role in keeping your tires on the ground. This ultimately improves handling, safety, and performance of your bike.
